Hands-on tutorial

• After downloading and extracting the fits files above, you should see:

  IMLup_fits_files >> ls
  IMLup_12CO_220GHz.fits
  IMLup_continuum_220GHz.fits
  

• Open CARTA, either through the app icon or from the terminal.

• Features to show:

  • Import continuum image The supported image formats are: CASA format (.image, .model, .residual, .mask, etc.), HDF5 format (IDIA schema, see HDF5 (IDIA schema) image support), FITS format, MIRIAD format
  • General overview: cursor info, axes, colorbar, X & Y profile cursors, Render configuration (scaling, colormap, etc), ruler
  • Image list, Animator, Region List. Move the widgets.
  • View file info in Header
  • Image view settings (title, beam)
  • Draw regions, look at Statistics widget (noise, peak intensity, flux density)
  • 2D Gaussian Image fitting
  • Continuum contours (mean-sigma-list)
